New Technology Revolutionises Police Interviews
Outdated police tape recording equipment has been around since the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) came into force in the early eighties and the new rich media platform will bring many overdue benefits.
Developed by Impact and delivered through Reliance High-Tech, V.A.D.E.R. Client digitally records the suspect or witness interview and delivers removable digital discs in line with current PACE guidelines. Coupled with V.A.D.E.R. Server, the interview is then streamed and stored on a central secure database.Accessed via a secure web interface, the interviews held on the server can be retrieved by approved personnel. Suspects could be brought to court more quickly as statements will be available for tape summarisers within minutes rather than days.
This will eliminate the need to put discs in the post and help prevent potential lapses in security.Using V.A.D.E.R. Server the retrieval of statements will be more efficient. Rather than listening through multiple tapes, innovative speech recognition technology allows key word searching, and evidence can be identified within seconds from a comprehensive database of digital footage.V.A.D.E.R. has been developed by combining best in class technology from the broadcast industry with specialist recording software already in use in European police forces. The result is a flexible platform that complies with current and anticipated legislation.
Detailed product demonstrations have taken place to several major police forces and initial orders are expected during 2008. Julian Phillips, Managing Director of Impact said, “By applying proven technology from the broadcast industry, we are able to give the police force instant and secure access to their own video and audio content - in effect, their own secure content management tool."
